Frequency Asked Questions

CONDENSATION VS. SEAL FAILURE?
Condensation
coldest surface in a room, such as glass on a window or door. We have
provided you with a link to a web site that can explain the technical reason why condensation happens in both the
winter and summer months. It is not uncommon to see condensation form on newly replaced windows. It does not
necessarily mean that the windows or installation is defective. If you can wipe off the moisture from the glass,
that's condensation.
Seal Failure
If you can't wipe the glass clean on either side, that's what we call a seal failure. A seal failure is a break in the seal
between two pieces of glass of an insulated glass unit. The only way to repair
a seal failure is to make a new glass unit. This involves removing the old glass unit and replacing it with a newly
manufactured glass unit.
In some cases moisture will appear on the ceiling next to a wall. This could be due to inadequate or improperly
installed insulation. In any event, call us, we may be able to help you. For more information on this subject follow

My windows won't stay up when I open them?
This could be a problem with the balance system. A properly working window sash will stay where you put it.
How do I remove my screens?
Normally screens on a double hung window are side loaded. This means there are springs located on the side of the
screen. Raise the screen about 4". Grab the bottom horizontal rail and try to move it left or right. Continue to
move it until it doesn't move any longer. Hold it there and place your hand on the side opposite the direction of
movement and push the screen towards the outside. Do just the opposite of this to reinstall.
Why do I feel air coming in at the center of the window around the lock?
This can be caused by a couple of problems. Check to be sure the window is correctly locked. Check the weather
stripping to be sure it isn't missing or short. If the top and bottom sash rails don't line up equally across the full
width of the sash, you may have an installation problem. The window must be square and plumb in the opening.
